Doris Bill confirmed Leadership Candidate

The Yukon Liberal Party is pleased to announce that Doris Bill has been officially confirmed as a candidate in the party’s leadership race.

A long-standing voice for the Yukon, Doris Bill brings years of leadership and advocacy experience. She served three terms as Chief of Kwanlin Dün First Nation, where she led work on economic opportunities for her nation, she built on the final and self government agreements by establishing a land management regime for not only citizens but the general public. She also expanded the work on justice, housing, community infrastructure, community safety and education. 

Prior to leading her nation she had a long career in journalism and broadcasting. 

“I care deeply about this territory and the people who live here,” said Bill. “This is an opportunity to keep building a Yukon that works for everyone.”

The deadline to submit a leadership nomination package is May 29, 2025. If more than one candidate is confirmed, Yukon Liberal Party members will vote to select their new leader on June 19, 2025.


2025 Leadership Convention Details Announced

Yesterday, Premier Ranj Pillai announced that he will step aside as party leader and will not be seeking a 3rd term as the MLA for Porter Creek South. Pillai has asked the Executive to immediately begin the process to hold a Leadership Convention to select a new party leader.

The Executive has met and worked out the details for the Leadership Convention. The convention will take place in Whitehorse on June 19, 2025, bringing members together to elect a new leader. Candidate nomination packages are available by emailing [email protected] and the rules for candidates are posted hereThe deadline to submit a nomination entry is May 29, 2025.

Yukon Liberal Party Annouces 2025 Leadership Race

Yukon Liberal Party leader Ranj Pillai announced today that he will step aside as party leader and will not be seeking a 3rd term as the MLA for Porter Creek South. Pillai has asked the Party to immediately begin the process to hold a Leadership Convention to select a new party leader.

Later today, the Yukon Liberal Party Executive will meet to discuss timelines and entry requirements for the Leadership Convention, as outlined in the party’s Constitution. Pillai will continue to represent Porter Creek South until the next territorial election, which must occur on or before November 3, 2025. He announced in a press conference this afternoon that he will remain as party leader and Premier until a new successor is chosen.
