CLOCK STRIKES MARCH – NO WORD FROM NIXON, LEEF ON PARKS CANADA CUTS

Whitehorse:  As the clock strikes March there is still no word from the Minister of Tourism or Yukon’s Member of Parliament regarding the future of Parks Canada services for the upcoming summer, says Klondike MLA Sandy Silver.  In a January 21st conference call MP Ryan Leef told stakeholders they would be kept in the loop on his lobbying efforts and that an announcement would be made no later than March 1st.

F.H. NUMBERS ALARMING SAYS SILVER

Whitehorse:  The construction bids on the proposed F.H. Collins school are alarming, says Interim Liberal Leader Sandy Silver.  Documents posted on the Department of Highways and Public Works website yesterday show the low bid for the new F.H. Collins project is more than $9 million over what the government has set aside for construction.

AUDIT CONFIRMS POOR PLANNING

Whitehorse:  Interim Liberal Leader Sandy Silver says today’s Auditor General of Canada report confirms what the Liberal Caucus has been saying for years: that two rural hospitals were poorly planned and built with no idea of what the health care needs of the local communities were.

SILVER WANTS DAWSON WASTEWATER TRANSITION EXTENDED

Whitehorse:  Interim Liberal Leader Sandy Silver is calling on Public Works Minister Wade Istchenko to extend the handoff of the Dawson Wastewater Treatment Project to the City of Dawson indefinitely.  Silver is making the request on the heels of the latest incident at the facility that saw the system malfunction on February 2nd.
