Whitehorse: Interim Liberal Leader Darius Elias announced critic responsibilities for the Liberal Caucus today.  At the top of the list of responsibilities for the Vuntut Gwitchin MLA will be the Executive Council Office and the areas of land claims and self government.

“The relationship between the Government of Yukon and First Nation governments is obviously something that needs a great deal of attention,” said Elias.  “I will do my part to assist the new government as it strives to meet its obligations.”

Klondike MLA Sandy Silver will serve as House Leader for the Liberal Caucus and critic for the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources, among other responsibilities.

“The Klondike was built on mining and it continues to drive our economy today,” said Silver.  “Ensuring Yukoners benefit from the current boom will be one of my top priorities.”

The remainder of the critic roles are as follows:

Darius Elias:  Executive Council Office, Finance, Yukon Development Corporation/Yukon Energy Corporation, Public Service Commission, Environment, Education, Workers’ Compensation Health and Safety Board, Highways and Public Works, French Language Services Directorate, Health and Social Services (shared)  

Sandy Silver: Energy, Mines and Resources, Health and Social Services (shared), Yukon Housing/Liquor/Lotteries Corporation, Community Services, Justice, Tourism and Culture, Economic Development, Women’s Directorate
