Statement by Klondike MLA Sandy Silver on the closure of the Klondike Highway due to LNG truck rollover
"I am monitoring the situation on the Klondike Highway carefully and I hope the LNG truck is righted without any incident.
This is a serious situation that has closed the main highway through the Klondike for a day. But it could have been a lot worse.
I commend the Mayor of Dawson and Fire Chief Regimbal for their quick response and communication with the public on this issue.
On the other hand, the Government of Yukon response to this incident has been oddly slow.
I am very curious to know how the LNG legislation referenced by the Premier in Denver, applies to this situation.
I’m calling on the Premier to explain what rules are in place to address this type of incident and whether they are adequate given the coming expansion of LNG related traffic through the Yukon.”
