WHITEHORSE – Liberal leader Sandy Silver and Mathieya Alatini, the Yukon Liberals candidate for Kluane, announced the party’s commitment to the mining and tourism industries today.  Alatini is the former Chief of the Kluane First Nation and also a former Yukon Women in Mining Champion.

“Mathieya has long been a strong advocate of business and industry that works in partnership with First Nations. She is an empowering role model for women who are seeking careers in their own back yard,” said Silver. “She is the ideal candidate to outline our support for these two industries that are cornerstones of our economy.”

WHITEHORSE –Liberal leader Sandy Silver is participating in an all candidate’s debate in his home riding of Klondike on Wednesday night.  The debate is being organized by the Dawson City Chamber of Commerce.

“I’d like to thank the Chamber for organizing this event as it presents all the candidates with an opportunity to speak directly with voters about their priorities,” said Silver.

Truth about Carbon Pricing in Yukon

WHITEHORSE – “No Yukon government can impose a carbon tax,” said Liberal Leader Sandy Silver today. “The Taxpayers Protection Act requires any new tax to be agreed to by Yukoners in a referendum.”

The current premier adopted the Vancouver Declaration committing Yukon to “adopting a broad range of domestic measures, including carbon pricing;” carbon pricing in Yukon will be introduced by the federal government in keeping with their commitment to a national carbon pricing strategy.
