Yukon Liberal Party thanks Member of the Legislative Assembly for Mount Lorne-Southern Lakes, John Streicker, for his service following his decision not to run in the 2025 territorial election
WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Liberal Party is extending its sincere thanks to John Streicker, MLA for Mount Lorne-Southern Lakes as he prepares to conclude his time in elected office after nearly a decade of public service with the Government of Yukon.
First elected in 2016, Streicker served in multiple Cabinet roles, including as Minister of Community Services, Minister responsible for the French Language Services Directorate, and Minister responsible for the Yukon Liquor Corporation and the Yukon Lottery Commission. He is currently Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources (EMR), Minister of Tourism and Culture, Minister responsible for the Yukon Development Corporation and Yukon Energy Corporation, and continues to serve as Minister responsible for the French Language Services Directorate. He also served as Government House Leader in the 35th Assembly.
During his time in Cabinet, Streicker has championed many initiatives ranging from sports infrastructure to renewable energy in our communities, from modernizing mining legislation to land use planning, from funding for the new convention centre to rallying support to address flooding in Southern Lakes, from promoting local food and forestry, to legalizing cannabis. Streicker was tasked with leading the response to several of the Yukon’s most challenging moments in the past decade, including the emergency response to COVID-19 and the catastrophe at Eagle Gold mine. Streicker has been a staunch advocate for sustainability, arts and culture and community voices, surtout la communauté franco-yukonaise. He has represented the Yukon with pride at national tables and at the same time continued to volunteer in his local communities. Streicker served on the all-party committee to hear from Yukoners on electoral reform. He put his heart into all he did.
“For the past nine years, it has been my privilege to work with and for Yukoners. It is an awesome responsibility to chart our path forward as a territory, this place we all love and call home. Màhsi cho, merci, gunalchéesh and thanks for the chance to stand up for the Yukon and big shout out to all of those candidates stepping forward for the next election.”
