WATSON LAKE - Amanda Brown announced today that she has put her name forward to be the Yukon Liberal candidate for the Watson Lake riding in the 2021 Territorial election. Brown will seek the candidacy at the February 18th nomination meeting.
Brown, born and raised in Watson Lake, respects and acknowledges the traditional territory of the Kaska Nation. As an elected councillor she is proud to serve her community members as part of the Government of Liard First Nation. She has provided support and knowledge to the community in her roles as a health director, First Nation community support worker, and councillor. In her community roles she is a strong health advocate who is dedicated and passionate about health care equality and accessibility for everyone.
Brown is confident about using her unique experiences and strengths to positively contribute to Yukon laws and voice the needs and concerns of the community as a member of the Yukon Government. She will use her position to advocate for a holistic approach in the programs and services delivered to community.
As a Councillor, Brown has seen firsthand the success that can come when governments of all levels work together for the people they represent. Most recently, she has seen how well the First Nation Government, Municipal and Territorial governments have come together to proactively manage the Covid-19 pandemic response.
Through her work as a First Nation Community Support Worker, Brown has met and supported many community members as they navigated the health system. Her varied experiences have brought her a deep understanding of what services and programs are needed in the community, and she is ready to stand for everyone who calls Watson Lake home.
