Posted by Yukon Liberal Party President on September 10, 2025

WHITEHORSE – Cynthia James has officially been confirmed as the Yukon Liberal Party candidate for Southern Lakes. Cynthia declared her intention to seek the nomination on August 27, 2025.

Cynthia is a lifelong Yukoner, community organizer, and Indigenous leader with a deep commitment to reconciliation, environmental protection, and rural economic development. She has worked across the Southern Lakes region to promote sustainable tourism, cultural revitalization, and infrastructure investments that reflect community needs.

As a proud citizen of Carcross/Tagish First Nation, Cynthia brings deep knowledge of the land, people, and history of Southern Lakes. She is running to ensure rural voices are heard, respected, and represented in territorial decision-making - and to advance work that supports both economic opportunity and environmental stewardship.

The next territorial election must happen on or before November 3, 2025. As one candidate stepped forward to represent the Yukon Liberals in this riding, the nomination meeting scheduled for September 10, 2025 is no longer needed.

“Cynthia James brings strength, experience, and a strong commitment to community to the Yukon Liberal team. She understands what matters most to the people of Southern Lakes and will be a powerful advocate in the Legislature.”

Mike Pemberton, Leader of the Yukon Liberal Party

“Southern Lakes is my home - and I’m running to make sure our future is shaped by the people who live here. That means honouring our land and cultures, strengthening services for rural Yukoners, and supporting sustainable development that lasts. I’m ready to stand up for the values that make our region strong.”
