Yukon Liberal Party 2025 Leadership Convention Details

The Yukon Liberal Party will host its Leadership Convention on Thursday, June 19, at the Sternwheeler Hotel in Whitehorse. The event will run from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with voting taking place between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Attendance is free and open to the public, but only eligible party members, as defined in the Yukon Liberal Party Constitution, will be permitted to vote. To be eligible to vote, new memberships must be purchased by June 12. Party members will be able to vote in person at the convention. To become a member, visit www.ylp.ca/membership.

For those unable to attend in person, a proxy voting option is available. Each member may carry three proxy votes on behalf of another eligible member.

There are two candidates seeking to become the next leader of the Yukon Liberal Party and the next Premier of the Yukon -Doris Bill and Mike Pemberton.

Doris Bill is a long-standing voice for the Yukon, bringing years of leadership and advocacy experience. She served three terms as Chief of Kwanlin Dün First Nation, where she led efforts to create economic opportunities, establish a land management regime, and expand programs in justice, housing, education, community infrastructure, and safety. Before entering politics, Bill had a distinguished career in journalism and broadcasting.

Mike Pemberton is a longtime businessperson, dedicated community volunteer, and proud husband and father. He has spent over three decades in the private sector and held leadership roles in numerous organizations, including Chair of the Whitehorse Chamber of Commerce, Chair of the Yukon Development Corporation, Yukon Energy board member, Yukon Workers’ Compensation Appeal Tribunal member, President of the Yukon Community Crime Stoppers Association, and most recently, a federal nominee to the Yukon Water Board.

This process reflects the Yukon Liberal Party’s continued commitment to openness, accountability, and democratic decision-making. The Party looks forward to a strong, respectful leadership race that brings Yukoners together and focuses on building a bright future for the territory.
