WHITEHORSE – The Yukon Liberal Party is pleased to announce that Mellisa Kwok has been confirmed as the Liberal candidate for Whitehorse Centre.

Mellisa Kwok is a second-generation Chinese Canadian, a mother of two, and a passionate advocate for building stronger, healthier communities. Born and raised in Whitehorse, on the traditional territories of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta’an Kwäch’än Council, Mellisa brings both deep roots and forward-looking vision to her candidacy.

Mellisa served as a Council Member for the City of Whitehorse, where she gained hands-on experience addressing housing, infrastructure, and community safety challenges. Currently, she is the Senior Communications Specialist at Dakwakada Capital Investments, the economic arm of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations.

With a Bachelor of Fine Arts and more than 15 years of leadership experience in the non-profit sector, Mellisa has dedicated her career to advancing the arts, community development, and Indigenous economic reconciliation. She served four years on the Yukon Arts Advisory Council and previously worked as Regional Manager for the Arctic Inspiration Prize, celebrating and supporting northern innovation. Her commitment to learning and Indigenous governance is reflected in her studies at Yukon University and her leadership as the former Executive Director of the Yukon First Nation Chamber of Commerce.

As the Yukon Liberal candidate for Whitehorse Centre, Mellisa is committed to tackling the issues that matter most to Yukoners: affordable housing, addressing the rising cost of living, ensuring safer and healthier downtown spaces, supporting accessible health and mental health services, and fostering strong relationships and partnerships with Yukon First Nations. She is a strong advocate for renewable energy and climate action, ensuring the Yukon’s growth is sustainable for future generations.

Mellisa’s vision for Whitehorse Centre is one of inclusion, opportunity, and resilience. Guided by her values of equity, collaboration, and respect, Mellisa is ready to bring fresh energy and a strong voice to the Yukon Legislative Assembly.

"Whitehorse Centre is at the heart of our capital city, and I’m honoured to have the opportunity to represent the people who live and work here. I want to bring a fresh, collaborative approach to tackling our biggest challenges - making housing more affordable, keeping downtown safe and welcoming for everyone, and ensuring that every Yukoner has access to the care and opportunities they need to thrive."
