Yukon Liberal Party thanks Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Whitehorse West, Richard Mostyn, for his service following his decision not to run in the 2025 territorial election
First elected in 2016, Mostyn has served in several key cabinet roles, including Minister of Community Services, Minister responsible for the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Board, Minister of Highways and Public Works and Minister of the Public Service Commission.
Over more than eight years in office, Mostyn was a tireless advocate for community safety, housing and resilient public infrastructure. He led efforts to strengthen wildfire prevention and emergency response across the territory and supported major investments to expand Whitehorse’s transit system. He worked closely with federal and municipal partners to deliver long-awaited infrastructure projects across the Yukon - including the long-promised Dawson City Recreation Centre, which is now under construction after years of delay.
Throughout his time in office, Mostyn made it a priority to engage directly with Yukoners, placing particular focus on listening to the needs of rural communities. His work supported new community buildings in Faro and Watson Lake, a new firehall and arena in Carmacks, the Darius Elias Community Centre in Old Crow and a new gymnastics and climbing facility in Whitehorse. He also led record lot development in Whistle Bend and beyond to help address the Yukon’s housing shortage.
“It's been the honour of a lifetime to serve the people of Whitehorse West and all Yukoners. One of the most rewarding parts of this job has been working alongside the incredible public servants who make government work. Their dedication, creativity, and professionalism have allowed us to move big things forward - from wildfire prevention to housing to historic infrastructure development. I’m deeply grateful to them, and to the community members across the territory - especially in rural Yukon - who shared their stories, insights, and hopes for the future. Their voices guided our work every step of the way. I look forward to following what Premier Pemberton and his team will continue to build.”
- MLA for Whitehorse West Richard Mostyn
“On behalf of the Yukon Liberal Party, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Minister Mostyn for his exceptional service. Richard’s dedication to building safer, stronger communities has had a lasting impact on this territory. His deep respect for public service and collaborative approach to leadership have helped move the Yukon forward. We wish him every success in his next chapter.”
- Premier and Leader of the Yukon Liberal Party Mike Pemberton
