STATEMENT BY COMMUNITY SERVICES CRITIC SANDY SILVER ON THE ECOJUSTICE DRINKING WATER REPORT CARD

Whitehorse:Liberal Community Services Critic Sandy Silver made the following statement today on the Ecojustice drinking water report card:

“All Yukoners should be concerned by the fact the Yukon got the lowest mark out of all the provinces and territories in the latest report card from Ecojustice.  The Yukon received a D+ down from a C- in 2006.

The Yukon Party government committed to creating a Yukon Water Strategy in the recent election campaign and our poor showing in this national report is all the more reason to move forward on this initiative.  The report was critical of the Yukon’s source water protection and identified it as an area that needs to be improved.  This report gives the Government of Yukon some direction on what needs to be part of the new Water Strategy and I hope it takes that advice and makes those improvements.”
