Yukon Liberal Party thanks Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Riverdale North, Nils Clarke, for his service following his decision not to run in the 2025 territorial election

Clarke was first elected as the MLA for Riverdale North in 2016. He served as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly in his previous term and currently holds cabinet positions as Minister of Environment and Minister of Highways and Public Works.

As Minister of Environment, Clarke played a key role in some of Yukon’s recent major conservation achievements, including signing the Kusawa Park Management Plan, signing the Aullaviat/Anguniarvik Traditional Conservation Area Agreement, and officially designating Chasàn Chùa as a Territorial Park. He drove progress on Our Clean Future targets - from high-performance building retrofits to renewable energy installations. He passed and implemented the Animal Protection and Control Act and operationalized the Extended Producer Responsibility regulations.

In Highways and Public Works, Clarke oversaw many transformative infrastructure investments. These include the rebuilding of the Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport main and parallel runways, the completion of the Dempster Fibre project, and the passing of the new Traffic Safety Act, which targets unsafe and impaired driving. He has also promoted many sustainable government infrastructure energy upgrades. Clarke’s work has helped build a more connected, climate-conscious, and forward-looking territory by balancing his multiple roles to serve both the people of Riverdale North and all Yukoners.

“It has been a great privilege to serve the people of Riverdale North and Yukoners across the territory. I am proud of what we have accomplished together, from protecting our environment to building strong, lasting infrastructure. The experiences that come with this role are incredibly rich and varied, but it is the people of this territory who have made my time in office so meaningful. You have shown me how diverse, unique, and caring the Yukon’s population is. I deeply appreciate your unwavering support, especially approaching the one-year anniversary of the vehicle accident in which I was involved and where a deeply valued colleague and community member tragically lost his life. This support has meant everything to me and to my family. I have every confidence in Premier Pemberton and his team as they continue to build on the important work that we have started.”

  • MLA for Riverdale North Nils Clarke

“Thanks to MLA Nils Clarke’s commitment to our environment, to sustainable infrastructure, and to climate action, the Yukon has become a stronger, healthier, and more resilient territory. Even while navigating the consequences of a terrible car accident last summer, Nils remained a steady, compassionate, and constant presence on the team. He always brought a deep sense of community to his work, rarely missing a celebration, neighbourhood event, or gathering in his riding. We wish him the very best in his next chapter.”

  • Premier and Leader of the Yukon Liberal Party Mike Pemberton

The next territorial election must be held on or before November 3, 2025.
